Bay "laurel" leaf crowns were placed on the heads of headache sufferers as well as Greek scholars, hence the name baccalaureate which means "noble berry tree" in French (1). Bay essential oil is useful for immunity by way of stimulating the lymph, sinuses, lungs and circulation. When massaged directly onto swollen lymph nodes, it produces an almost immediate effect. It has a gentle relaxing effect on the nervous system, and it is also said to improve memory. It is recommended to use once a week as a preventative measure and usage can increase during cold and flu season. Smelling Bay is stimulating, improves memory, and cures headaches and stress (1).
