Birch has a very similar chemistry and fragrance to Wintergreen essential oil. It is a premier remedy for sore muscles, joints and sprains. For cosmetic use, Birch can help soften skin, ease skin irritation and poriasis. Other actions of Birch include anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antiseptic, astringent, diuretic and tonic.
Aromatic Profile: Wintergreen-like, intense, sweet woody, sharp
Appearance: Colourless, pale yellow or reddish tinted liquid
Other Uses: Extensively used as a flavouring agent, especially 'root beer', chewing gum and toothpaste (very low-level use).

Safety Considerations: Caution is advised with dosages, harmful in concentration. Dilute the essential oil in either a carrier oil for massage, or use 2-3 drops in a bath and use sparingly. Not for use with individuals who have liver problems, for those taking blood thinning medications or for the elderly. Keep out of open wounds and out of the hands of children (it smells like candy).
