This herb is used for cystorrhea, cystitis, and urethritis for pain.  It has been successful with acute dysuria with back pain and relief of general incontinence.  A recent study concluded reduced hyperglycemia metabolism in diabetic mice by increasing insulin level as well as recovering injured beta cells.  The results suggest that corn silk may be used as a hypoglycemic food.  This herb is safe to use for infants with cyctitis and urethritis.  Dosage is recommended 4-6 ounces to 3 times/day or ½ to 1 ½ teaspoons in 8 ounces water.

Cornsilk contains carotenoids, volatile oils, and sterols. The carotenoids include lutein and zeaxanthin which protect the eyes from oxidative damage. It gentle diuretic and mild antibiotic activity is helpful in cystitis, prostate disorders, frequent urination, and bladder irritability, and kidney stones.
