This bitter tasting herb is traditionally used in Europe to reduce fever, improve digestion, and as an anti-inflammatory.  The blessed thistle also promotes urination and lactation, relieves congestion and edema, and stimulates appetite.  In addition, this herb also restores the nerves, promotes clear thinking and relieves depression and fatigue.  One study showed powerful antioxidant and anti-hepatotoxic properties and anti-cancer effects against carcinoma cells. The results that silibinin, blessed thristle’s main ingredient, was a potential therapeutic agent promoting bone-forming osteoblastogenesis and assisted in osteoclastic bone reabsorption.  Avoid using in acute kidney inflammation or gastric hyperacidity.
