Bladderwrack provides nourishment, restores the endocrine and immune systems, regulates metabolism, promotes detoxification, clears eczema, protects from radiation, promotes urination, stimulates digestion and relieves wheezing.   The functions and uses are almost identical to kelp.

Fatty degeneration of heart, as an adjunct therapy.

Thyroid hypofunction with obesity, fluid retention.

Malnutrition, in mineral deficiencies.

.

Bladderwrack is a brownish-green alga with flat, forked fronds containing air bladders. It contains polyphenols, polysaccharides, and minerals, especially iodine. The polysaccharides are immunostimulant. The iodine may stimulate the thyroid gland. It is taken as an anti-goiter remedy. It raises the metabolic rate by increasing the thyroid gland’s hormone production. It is helpful for rheumatic conditions. One study found that patients taking bladderwrack lost more weight than the control group. Another study found that bladderwrack has antiviral and anti-HIV properties.
