100% Certified organic Devil's Claw
Harpagophytum
The hook like seed capsules of this African native plant are what give Devil’s Claw its name. The underground portion has been used medicinally for over 250 years. Some present day applications include arthritis, gout, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), high cholesterol, muscle and back pain, tendonitis, migraine headache, heart burn and hay fever. Devil’s Claw is known to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties as well as being a liver tonic and smooth muscle relaxant.
In a study on osteoarthritis pain in the hip and knee Devil’s Claw was shown to work as well to decrease pain as diacerhein (a drug for osteoarthritis currently not available in the U.S.). And it has been shown to reduce low-back pain as well as standard NSAID drugs but with no known long term harmful side effects.
