Foeniculum vulgare

Fennel seeds are used extensively in cooking; the flavor is reminiscent of licorice. Medicinally, fennel has a large range of uses.  It improves digestion, especially of fatty foods and is a well known aid for colic in babies and indigestion in adults.  It can improve milk production for lactating moms and is a common herb in cough remedies.  It does have an estrogenic effect and so therapeutic doses are not advised during pregnancy.
