Cupressus sempervirens

Certified Organic

Needles, Steam Distilled, Morocco

Cypress is one of the first things we reach for at the onset of a sore throat. Its antibiotic action helps a cold or bronchitis from setting in. It has an overall toning and tightening effect on the body, aiding with congested lymph, varicose veins, lung congestion, cellulite, hemorrhoids, and reducing excess fluids in the body (sweat, runny nose, etc). Cypress also helps one get through periods of grief to get on with life after an emotional crisis.

Our beautiful organic Cypress Leaf essential oil is of exceptional quality – and we think you’ll agree. Highly valued in medicine and as incense by ancient civilizations, Cypress is still used as a purification incense by the Tibetans.1 Cypress trees do not easily decay (thus the Latin name sempervirens – lives forever) and is perhaps the primary reason why the Greeks used Cypress wood to sculpt statues of their gods.2

Cypress Leaf essential oil has a calming, soothing action on the mind.1 It is also used in perfumes and colognes as a tenacious fragrance component. We have not tried this, but author Scott Cunningham states that a combination of cypress and patchouli essential oils creates an ambergris-like substitute.2 Another source states that the proportions should be one part Patchouli to two parts Cypress.3

Aromatic Profile: Bright, fresh, clean, resinous and mildly woody becoming somewhat sweet-balsamic, smoky woody, and later ambergris-like, in the tenacious drydown.

Appearance: Colorless, clear, transparent, mobile liquid.

Use: Aromatherapy, Natural Perfumery.

Blending Suggestions: Dilute and add drop by drop to your blends until the desired effect is achieved.

Blends Well With: Ambrette Seed, Benzoin, Bergamot, Cardamom, Cedarwood, Cistus, Clary Sage, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Juniper, Labdanum, Lavender, Lemon, Linden Blossom, Liquidambar (Styrax), Mandarin, Marjoram, Orange, Pine, Rosemary, Sandalwood. Cypress Leaf essential oil “can help to fix citrus notes and balance light florals by adding some body.”6 It also has “a unique dryout of delicate and tenacious sweetness, often compared to that of ambre (labdanum-ambre).”7

Safety Considerations: Skin sensitization if oxidized.8 Dilute before using. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin.
