Basil has a wide range of uses that include fighting colds, bronchitis, loss of concentration, migraines, gout, aches and pains. It is diuretic, cleansing to the respiratory system, good for the heart and digestive system and stimulates menstruation. Its antispasmodic effects are soothing to the nervous system. Applied to the skin, it can stimulate a sluggish complexion. If added to massage oil, it has warming effects, and if mixed with lavender, it stimulates hair growth. Small amounts are stimulating and considered to be a tonic, and large amounts are too over-stimulating. Not for use with young children.

Our organic Sweet Basil ct Linalool essential oil has a penetrating green, sweet herbaceous and uplifting aroma; it is used in natural perfumery for its unique fresh herbaceous character and balsamic undertone. Linalool is the predominant chemical component in this species of Basil (1); also present is a much smaller percentage of methyl chavicol (aka estragol), the constituent responsible for the mild anise-like aroma (2).

Sweet Basil is credited with the ability to give the mind strength and clarity and as such is regarded as a useful study aid (3).
