Lime oil is antiseptic, antiviral, and antibacterial, restorative and tonic. It stimulates digestion and can be used to decrease stress, increase mental clarity and uplift the body and mind. The oil can be massaged into lymphatic regions during illness to increase lymphatic circulation. It is very effective as a cleaning agent and can be used in skin care routines.
Our organic distilled Lime essential oil is soft, zesty, and tart with a touch of sweetness. It will keep much longer and will not sour as cold, or expeller, pressed citrus oils will eventually do. It is excellent in natural perfumery and a truly fine organic citrus!
The origin of Lime, Citrus aurantifolia, is believed to be from the East Indian Archipelago where it is found on almost all the islands. From there it is said to have spread all the way to the west coast of South America, and then to East Africa, Iran, Egypt, Arabia, and southern Europe. It is very likely that Lime seeds from Europe were brought to the West Indies and Florida after the Americas were discovered, and from there Limes spread to Texas, Mexico, California, Central America, and South America.1,2,3
The aroma of Lime oil is said to have the ability to increase alertness, while the topical application of Lime oil in massage is said to have a relaxing, stress-relieving effect.4 It is uplifting and refreshing for the mind, especially in the case of anxiety, apathy, and depression.5 Lime oil is also used to treat skin issues such as acne, oily skin, and insect bites; to treat digestive disorders, circulatory system issues (such as high blood pressure and poor circulation), and respiratory system issues (such as bronchitis and sore throats); and to treat colds, fevers, and infections, on account of its antibacterial, antiseptic, and antiviral properties.6
