Rosemary essential oil is stimulating and pain relieving to muscles and nerves. In small doses, it combats nervous tension and in higher doses it is useful for exhaustion. It has anti-microbial properties that help fight lung congestion, sore throat and canker sores. Rosemary is supportive to the digestive system, and aids in the production of bile. It has a long history of use with skin and hair health. Due to ketone content, Rosemary should not be used by children under the age of 10 years old or by pregnant women.

Our very fresh, organic Rosemary ct Cineole has a delightful aroma and is one of the most appealing of all the rosemary oils we have smelled.  Its complex aromatic profile displays the quality of an oil that has been distilled with great care. Rosemary essential oil is routinely adulterated or diluted, and this is one of the reasons why we provide an analysis of the oil available online.  Quality can only be provided by producers who make the oils exclusively for the aromatherapy market and whose oils command an appropriate and realistic price.1

The designation of chemotypes (ct) of an essential oil is necessary when distinctly different chemical compositions of the same species are produced, and due to their different compositions, these oils can be applied to varying purposes.2 Rosemary ct Cineole is said to be especially useful against staph and strep bacteria, including E. coli and Candida albicans.3,4 Its camphor content is lower than some of the other chemotypes of Rosemary, and it also has a lower ketone content than the Verbenone chemotype.5 Rosemary ct Cineole essential oil improves digestion and is especially useful for catarrhal conditions, like excess mucous in the respiratory system.6 It is indicated therapeutically as a skin and hair tonic, as a digestive stimulant (for liver, gall bladder), and for loss of memory or mental fatigue when inhaled.7 Rosemary’s ability to easily penetrate the skin is due to its 1.8 cineole content, likening it to a liposome in that it is a skin permeation enhancer.8 Its stimulating action on hair follicles and circulation in the scalp is also useful for encouraging hair growth9,10 and may be effective in dissolving hair plugs in the scalp, which is a condition associated with hair loss,11 and presumably caused by the buildup of sebum, cholesterol, and testosterone in the hair follicles.

Rosemary is a well known herb native to the Mediterranean region, abundantly growing wild in Spain, France, Corsica, Italy, Sardinia, all states of the former Yugoslavia, Russia, Turkey, the Middle East, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and others.12 The odor character of Rosemary oil varies according to where the plants grow (the altitude and climate), what plant parts are distilled, and whether the plant material is fresh or dried when distilled.13 It was known to be sacred to the ancient Greeks and Romans who used it as a symbol of regeneration and employed its aromatic qualities in incense.14
