Vanilla diluted in Jojoba oil

Vanilla planifolia

Vanilla oil helps release anger and frustration, and can help the individual tap into inner sensuality. It also improves confidence. The scent of Vanilla is calming and soothing.

Invaluable in natural perfumery, our organic Vanilla Absolute at 75% concentration (25% organic ethanol) smoothes rough edges, warms floral blends, and softens coniferous notes with its 3-7% vanillin content and its exceptional aroma. The fragrance of Vanilla is one of universal appeal as is its influence on the emotions – it invites sensuality, builds confidence, relaxes inhibitions, conveys comfort and security, and softens anger and frustration.1,2 Try blending it with your favorite essential oils, absolutes and CO2 extracts. To add a green note to Vanilla, use Violet Leaf; adding traces of Celery or Caraway makes it sophisticated and intimate.3

Vanilla is the only edible orchid in the world; it is pollinated by the Melipone bee found only in Central America where this orchid is native. Nevertheless, Vanilla is now grown in Indonesia, Tahiti, Réunion, and Madagascar where pollination is done by hand.4 The resulting fruit (bean pod) develops on the plant for 8-9 months and is odorless when harvested, but when cured in a three month-long fermentation process, crystals of vanillin form in thick reddish drops on the pod, releasing the characteristic odor of vanilla.5,6

PLEASE NOTE: Vanilla Absolute - Organic is not recommended for therapeutic purposes; it is intended for use in perfumery only. This material is only partially soluble in fixed (carrier/vegetable) oils and may require special use instructions to blend. If you are interested in using Vanilla for aromatherapeutic purposes, please see our three high-quality Vanilla Bourbon CO2 extracts that we carry.

Aromatic Profile: Deep, heavy, extremely rich, balsamic liqueur-like vanilla sweetness with a slight woody note. An excellent fixative that adds a luscious vanilla nuance to natural perfumes.

Appearance: Dark brown to reddish-brown somewhat viscous liquid that may have varying consistency and/or a small amount of deposit. Warm to 100-120°F to homogenize before use. This material is only partially soluble in fixed (carrier/vegetable) oils and may require special use instructions to blend.

Use: Natural Perfumery, Incense.

Blending Suggestions: Dilute and add drop by drop to your blends until the desired effect is achieved. We suggest using smaller amounts in your blends to start with; vanilla tends to “bloom” (increase in aroma) in formulas and perfumes as they age, with the potential to become predominant.

Blends Well With: Amyris, Balsam of Peru, Bergamot, Caraway, Cedarwood (Atlas), Celery, Cinnamon, Clove, Cocao, Coffee, Coriander, Frankincense, Geranium, Ginger, Jasmine, Lavandin, Lime, Orange Blossom, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood, Tuberose, Vetiver, Violet Leaf, Ylang Ylang.

Safety Considerations: Dilute before using. A patch test should be performed before use for those with sensitive skin.
